Ward Powers Huskies to Sweep in Baseball

LOCK HAVEN--Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Msgn. Bonner) hit three home runs to power the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a sweep of Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon. Bloomsburg won by scores of 3-2 and 11-7.

In game one, Ward hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings with his sixth inning blast proving to be the game winning run. Wards' hit made a winner of Michael Griggs (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) who went 6 and 2/3 innings with relief help from Dustin Johnson (Sunbury/Shikellamy). Griggs won for the second straight start and fanned seven along the way.

In game two, Ward got Bloomsburg off to an early lead with an RBI single in the first inning, then with the Huskies trailing 5-3 in the top of the fourth, he added a three-run homer to put Bloomsburg in front for good, 6-5.

The Huskies added to their lead in the fifth when Rob Watlock (Plains/Coughlin) had a two-run double, while Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octorara) had an RBI single in the sixth. Matt Robinson (York/Red Lion) also had a two-run double for the Huskies in the second inning, one of 14 hits for Bloomsburg in the game.

Ryan Sanders (Danville/Danville) won his first game of the year with 4 2/3 innings of work with Jeff Withelder (Wallingford/Strath Haven) getting the save.

Bloomsburg improves to 13-30 with the sweep and will close out its season with four games against East Stroudsburg Friday and Saturday with Saturday's doubleheader at Litwhiler Field.
